I had dinner with my direct manager last night. I was off from work super late and we were the only ones left in the office. She asked if I’m seeing my boyfriend after work. I said I don’t have a boyfriend. She was surprised because she thought I got one, that’s why I leave work as soon as my tasks are finished. So I do not have any excuse to turn down her offer of treating me for dinner.
Little did she know that I was just avoiding her. She’s the most intimidating superior I've ever had. She can crumble you to pieces and make you feel you’re the most illiterate person in the world. Whenever I talk to her, I get too tongue twisted that I seem to be mumbling an unknown language.
But I don’t hate her for being that way. Sure I get disheartened when she utters a word to me, even if it’s positive. I just think that she earned to behave that way. She’s indeed one of the most intelligent people I know and if that’s how she lets other people become aware of her experience and knowledge, there’s nothing I can do about it. Couldn’t be bothered, right?
During our dinner last night…
My boss: Would you like to have some of those preserved eggs?
Me: Oh, century egg! I love century eggs. But wait, did you say “preserved”?
My boss: Yes, what do you think they are?
Me: (saying with all time confidence) Isn’t there a century bird that produces century egg? If there’s chicken egg from chicken, century egg should come from century bird!
My boss: Of course not, they’re preserved. There is no such animal as century bird. Haha! That’s funny! I’m going to make sure everybody in the office knows about it.
Boohoo. So much for impressing your boss.

funny story
During Jazzdance class:
Teacher: Thank you for coming guys. I hope to see you next week because we have an event right here…blah blah…We have celebrities coming. Wanna know who they are? U2! U2 is coming to perform with us. So bring your dancing shoes because they’re going to bring the house down. You have to pay 200 dollars but all proceeds will go to Cancer foundation.
Me: (in a very loud voice that everybody could hear me) U2?
Teacher: Yes, you know them? (she seemed surprised because I am obviously non-Chinese and for me to recognize U2 is a big deal)
Me: Of course! Who doesn’t know U2?
**At the back of my head: It can’t be right. U2, the best rock band of all time, is coming to Hong Kong specifically to this little fitness center to perform with sweating socialites? Can you imagine Bono and the rest of the gang playing fitness music? But if it’s for charity, it can be a possibility. Bono is known for his charity works all over the world.
Teacher: Everybody knows them. They’re the most famous dance group these days. So I’ll see you guys next week!
Me: Oh.
**How can they name themselves U2? It’s a mortal sin to use the name of an institution of rock history!
The following week I came, but just to work out. I am not paying 200 dollars to see U2, the most famous dance group in HK.
On my way to the changing room, I saw the poster for the event: E02!
I-ow-tu=Yu-tu.. Garr... Isang linggo akong di pinatahimik..
And they are just a bunch of dugyutin teenagers. Boohoo.

ponder on these
Now I am back to quoting the books that I read recently. I just noticed that these books make me somehow love life. These novels talk about death in a varying degree, but they all agree that you should live life to the fullest before death gets you. Haha, I just realized that I am not worrying much these days. My favorite expression now: Couldn’t be bothered.
Come on, spread the good news!
GREAT GATSBY
Let us learn to show our friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is dead.

A LONG WAY DOWN
Knowing that you want to die makes you less scared – Maureen
I screwed up. I’m not trying to make excuses for myself. I feel so wretched I want to die. – Martin
Why is it easier to, like, leap into the void than to face up to what you’ve done? – JJ
The truth was that I didn’t feel like a man who every now and then wanted to die, and there’s a difference. A man who wants to die feels angry and full of life and desperate and bored and exhausted, all at the same time; he wants to fight everyone, and he wants to curl up in a ball and hide in a cupboard somewhere. He wants to say sorry to everyone, and he wants everyone to know just how badly they’ve all let him down. I can’t believe that dying people feel that way, unless dying is worse than I thought. And why shouldn’t it be? Every other fucking thing is worse than I thought, so why should dying be any different? – JJ
You thought you were going to be someone; but now it’s obvious you’re nobody. You haven’t got as much talent as you thought you had, and there was no Plan B, and you got no skills and no education, and now you’re looking at 40 or 50 years of nothing. Less than nothing, probably. That’s pretty heavy. That’s worse than having the brain thing, because what you got now will take a lot longer to kill you. You’ve got the choice of a slow, painful death, or a quick merciful one. – Jess
Many people have a rope that ties them to someone, and than rope can be short or it can be long. – Jess
And you probably also know that when you look out of an aeroplane window and see the world shrink like that, you can’t help but think about the whole of your life, from the beginning until where you are now, and everyone you’ve ever known. And you’ll know that thinking about these things makes you feel grateful to God for providing them, and angry with Him for not helping you to understand them better, and so you end up in a terrible muddle and needing to talk to a priest. – Maureen
Is that so terrible, to be positive about something? – Maureen
I had wanted to kill myself, not because I hated living, but because I loved it. And the truth of the matter is, I think, that a lot of people who think about killing themselves feel the same way – I think that’s how Maureen, Jess and Martin feel. They love life and being shut out of it like that…It just fucking destroys you, man. So it’s like an act of despair, not an act of nihilism. It’s a mercy killing, not a murder. – JJ
Once you stop pretending that everything’s shitty and you can’t wait to get out of it, which is the story I’d been telling myself for a while, then it gets more painful, not less. Telling yourself life is shit is like an anesthetic, and when you stop taking the Advil, then you really can tell how much it hurts, and when it’s not like that kind of pain does anyone a whole lot of good. – Martin

DANCE DANCE DANCE
You gotta dance. As long as the music plays. You gotta dance. Don’t even think why. Stop to think, your feet stop. Your feet stop, we get stuck. We get stuck, you’re stuck. So don’t pay any min, no matter how dumb. You gotta keep the step. You gotta limber up. You gotta listen what you bolted down. You gotta use all you got. We know you’re tired, tired and scared. Happens to everyone, okay? Just don’t let your feet stop. – Sheep Man
Some people say it’s escapism. But that’s fine by me. I live my life, you live yours. If you’re clear about what you want, then you can live any way you please. I don’t give a damn what people say. They can be reptile for all I care. – Protagonist
Like if you love somebody, the love is always shifting or wavering. It’s always questioning or inflating or disappearing or denying or hurting. And the thing is, you can’t do anything about it. – Protagonist
For her, loneliness is something you have others remove from you. – Protagonist (pertaining to Amé).
Maybe as you get older, things fall apart, so something needs to help hold things together. Put the brakes a little on entropy, you know. – Protagonist
Humans achieve their peak in different ways. But whoever you are, once you’re over the summit, it’s downhill all the way. Nothing anyone can do about it. And the worst of it is, you never know where the peak is. You think you’re still going strong, when suddenly you’ve crossed the great divide. No one can tell. – Protagonist
With someone who’s dead, there’s no rush to make amends. She’ll dead for a long time. – Protagonist
If I go with her, there’ll come a time that I’ll regret it. But if I don’t go with her, I’ll be losing the key to my existence. – Dick North
I just put my heart into it. That’s the difference. It’s a question of attitude. If you really work at something, you can do it, up to a point. If you really work at being happy, you can do it, up to a point. – Protagonist
Instead of regretting what you did, you could have treated him differently from the beginning. You could have tried to be fair. But you didn’t. You don’t even have the right to be sorry. – Protagonist
People die all the time. Life is a lot more fragile than we think. So you should treat others in a way that leaves no regrets. Fairly, and if possible, sincerely. It’s too easy not to make the effort, then weep and wring your hands after the person dies. Personally, I don’t buy it. – Protagonist

not so excitement filled week
Is it the season of idleness? I haven't been doing much lately. I think it's the season. Spring, don't ever leave me again. Winter is horrible, causing me sleepless nights and allergies from warmers. With you, Spring, I feel like a schoolgirl who is innocently having fun. Please don't ever leave my side.
Anyway, here are the things that I did when I wasn't sleeping or slacking around last week:
1. Watched "The Queen." Helen Mirren is a gem. I don't know much about British history, except for lusting for Prince William. But this movie made me sympathize with the royal family and the rich people in general. They may have a glamorous life, but they can't enjoy the independence that commoners like us enjoy.

2. Watched "Pan's Labyrinth." Superb movie - the kind that doesn't let you sleep because of the trauma but still makes you smile when you leave the moviehouse because you know that every cent you paid is worth it.
3. Had dinner with my big boss at an Italian restaurant. Food was great but overall, the affair was just another one of those bullsh*t sessions. You just have to admit your mistakes and promise to improve for the better.
4. Attended an IDP event. They held a fair that assists hopeful students on their dreams of having an Australian education. I love school with all the politics and relaxed atmosphere that it entails, but to pay for 30,000AUD tuition for a one and a half year academic year?! I better scout for scholarships now. The courses looked promising and I will barter three years of unattachment to somebody if I can afford that lump of money.
5. Watched "Love Me If You Dare," a French movie. It's been a while since I watched a French movie, but this one is truly one of the most refreshing Parisian movie ever. Game? Game!
6. Attended a meeting of the Philippine Photographers Club in Hong Kong. And dig this: I jotted the minutes. I know it isn't much, but to be doing something out of your passion? Really priceless. It's not a sweat at all! And we were even invited to contribute images. I know my images are negligible compared to theirs, but the thought of being invited puts me in cloud nine already.
7. Finished Murakami's "Dance Dance Dance." It was ok. Not one of my favorite Murakami's masterpieces, but still an entertaining read. Lots of good life's lessons, too.
8. Got my renewed passport. In a span of five years, I became darker, fatter and my hair is a mess! Oh well, I couldn't be bothered. At least I am wiser and happier.

blah blah
Update on my life:
1.) Finished reading Nick Hornby's "A Long Way Down" and F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby"
2.) Now I am back with Murakami. I am currently reading "Dance Dance Dance". I am having a hard time reading finishing it though. It isn't as exciting as his other stuff. Next in line will be his "Wind Up Bird Chronicle".
3.) Discovered that I can do Wi-Fi Internet surfing with my PDA. I've had it for 8 months and if it had not been for my friend from Taiwan, I wouldn't maximize its functions.
4.) Been in Cloud 9 after my crush in the gym greeted me. I was asked "Hey, how are you?" and I was speechless for 5 seconds. Kilala nya ako! Haha! Torpe ko talaga! Ayan na, bigla namang uurong ang dila.
5.) Watched Dreamgirls. No no no way... We are a family... You're the perfect man for me. I love you I do... Shux, si Beyonce, que ganda talaga. I used to hate her, but she was really stunning in Dreamgirls. And the rest of the cast did a very nice job.
6.) As in my previous posts, went to Clearwater Bay to hike and to HK's Flower Show.
7.) Makipagkwentuhan hanggang alas 4 ng umaga ng walang tinotoma. Basta usap lang. Haha, in fairness, nangarag ako kinabukasan sa work nun.
8.) Ate at Cafe Siam, que mahal!
9.) Videoke for 8 hours. Un ang paumagahan.
10.) Sign up for Singles for Christ.

Hong Kong Flower Show
After my hike, I still had some energy to take photos. And I am certain that the Hong Kong Flower Show in Victoria Park would not let me down.

Flowering Macau Bridge

Staying pure

Buildings with flowers or flowers with buildings?

Standing out

Host pala ang HK ng East Asian games in two years

Bonggabilya

2007 is my year

My dream garden

Pano patugtugin ang gitarang ito?

Feeling photographer. Hehe!

Hong Kong - Clearwater Bay, Sai Kung
I rejoined my hikemates, Petra and Kitty (yes, those are their English names), after five hike-less months. I had just been busy with social stuff that I always decline their invitation.
Our first stop: Tai Miu. I don't know why they claim it to be just around 2 hour hike. It's definitely more than 2 hours! Way more! More than double!
Some flora you can find while hiking
Petra and Kitty are very adventurous like me. We could have gone straight ahead, but we opted to take the hard route so we can have better view. The trail is way steeper and harder and we needed additional 2 hours, but it was definitely worth it. Good thing we did, and it was indeed a much better view.
Just one of 'em mountains
Hundred Islands, eh?!
Syempre kailangan may tourist shot.
The Hongkongers in this area, usually from the upper class, have three hobbies:
1.) Flying model planes (not so costly, but imagine having to hike for 4 hours then having the faith that you precious plane will not run out of battery and eventually crash)
2.) Playing Golf - The most costly of all. The club is located atop a mountain. So you can treat the entire harbor as your golf course.
3.) Fishing - For peace lovers like me, there is nothing more relaxing than listening to ocean waves while waiting for some stupid fish to be lured by your bait.
After a 6 hour hike, off we go to the Fishing Village. This is the community viewed from the top.
And this is the village up close. Malabon ba ito? Bundok lang pala pagitan ng Hong Kong at Malabon.
So dapat adventure, sige try ang pagkamahal mahal na fried rice with sea urchin. Nasan ang sea urchin? Un daw ung little yellow pieces. Ah ok, taba lang ng talangka e!
After a sumptuous meal, there's no other way to go but thank St Buddha. So we went to Temple Sung.
Some wind toy. Nice no?! It's been more than one month since the CNY pero meron pa ding ganito. Sabagay ung mga xmas decors nga sa bahay namen sa pinas, holy week na tinatanggal.
My ever reliable rubber shoes.
So much for conquering Sai Kung, eh?!

Beijing - Huling Hirit
You know those movies that you love? They always have bloopers at the end, right?!
Let's do this to Beijing!
Don't get me wrong, I love Beijing. And I don't want to sound haughty and close-minded. I just found some funny rubbish bins while climbing the Great Wall and it would be nice to share them.
Come on, let's do this for fun, alright?

It took me a lot of thinking before getting ideas on what they wish to convey. I am not sure if I am right though. Do they mean:
1. Do not use your phone when it's raining?
2. Or do they mean do not ask for a day filled with thunder and storm?
Ha-ya! This is giving me headache! Next basurahan please!

Sleep slope? Naku, natutulog ang slope! Wag gisingin. Also, Chinese people are so good with vocab! I never used the word "frontage" in my entire life. Matalinhaga ha. Also, walk slowly with a bang. Talagang may strong feelings e.
Moving on...

Naku, kung hindi mo pa pangalagaan ang relic sa utos na to, manhid ka na talaga. Sumisigaw talaga e. No graffito, ok?!
Hehe... Mahal ko talaga ang Beijing. Woot woot!

Beijing - Summer Palace
Una introduccion por supuesto...
The last and definitely not the least stop - Summer Palace!
How about going to Summer Palace during Winter?
Methinks: just the right type of melancholy.
But overall: lotsafun!
Frozen water. Everything here is just a reflection.
Another reflection shot please!
Puno! Puno!
Perspective shots supposedly:
Presenting: The Pretty Filipina Gypsies Live in Beijing!
Feeling turista talaga ako dito.
Loads of thanks to Annie, Jiawei, Tita Lileth and Tito Pol. I really had a tremendously great time.
Beijing. Lovesit.
