i want to be a fashion photographer!

i am not usually a sucker for fashion, and i never like watching fashion shows.

i think they're overpublicized when i don't see any good that come out from these shows. i have always been a fan of individualism, and i don't need anybody to tell me on what is trendy or not.

until i came to this little fashion show at the fair. it's really opening up to the world of tyra banks and all those hopeful antm's! i still do not want to be influenced by them, but i want to be a fashion photographer!

and dig this: the fashion show included very famous celebs:

kill bill, anyone? uma turman! woot! woot!

who is she? you wouldn't be considered a cool earthling if you don't know her:

tory amos! one of the coolest singers of all time!

and some snaps of their equally beautiful friends:

see? see? not bad, eh? im so amazed at myself for taking these photos that i literally gave myself a tap on the shoulder! every hour when i review them in my cam while i was still in moscow! haha! im such a freak, and i love it!

moscow fair assessment

Russians aren’t ready for big fairs. HK and Canton Fairs are extremely chaotic, and the Moscow Fair is so relaxed to say the least. We didn’t get a million order of mugs like we usually do, but it is still a good experience overall.

Would you believe that we have a lot of inquiries from grannies and housewives asking us if we can sell our beautiful plates to them? They are surprised that they need to buy container loads to possess any of our ranges.

At the back of my head: we didn’t come all the way from HK to sell you a US$2 dinnerplate. but you need to smile and say: nyit, export dorika (no, export only).

Anyway, I think our booth got the most attention. We really displayed our highest end ranges. We still received a lot of potential queries. Other booths didn’t even get any single name card!

The best thing that came out from this Fair: I met Lena, our translator. She’s from the Mainland who went to Moscow to study business. We’re of the same age, and she speaks satisfactory English. Finally, somebody my age!

words for the day:

strasvizya: welcome
spasiva: thank you

a dozen observations in moscow

This was the trip that excited me the most. It was the first business trip that my company confirmed with me with proper notice. I was informed as early as May, unlike other trips when I only have two days to prepare. Also, this was a good trip because I wouldn’t be coming with any superior. I would be coming with a fellow marketing executive, same position as mine, who happens to be the closest to me in the office. She’s almost the same age as my mother, but she’s still youthful and she always thinks that she’s my foster mom in hk. And that means I don’t have to worry round the clock! And I can always trust that someone is out to save my ass without having to give me a one hour lecture afterwards.

I don’t want to write another 14 chapter chronicle (let’s make it 13 then, hehe) regarding this trip, but I can give you some observations that I’ve had in Moscow:

1. Russians are sooo beautiful. I am not exaggerating when I say that I have never seen an ugly person in my one week stay in Moscow. Everybody seemed clean and neat. They are fashionable, too, but not the overly fancy type as in some HKers.

2. All girls/ladies/women wear stockings. I never saw bare legs. Even if they’re wearing ¾ pants, they still wear stockings. Now that’s what you call sophisticated.

3. 98% of the ladies wear heels. And not just a few inches. I’m talking about stilettos here – while shopping, while walking the fair, while doing groceries. And this includes grannies! Haha, they aren’t afraid of rheumatism or osteoporosis at such ripe age.

4. Most of the Russian ladies are so slim! And I wasn’t too surprised! Their meals are generally of small servings! As in! The uber expensive rice wasn’t sticky at all, not to mention very little! It’s not even my standard of half rice!

5. I can never live there. Well apart from the cold weather on a summer season (as low as 6 degrees when it’s supposed to be summer), loud talking is so prohibited. They are annoyed by loud talkers, and they are whispering most of the time. For a scandalous little girl like me, I’ll be jailed at a nanosecond notice.

6. You have to be rich to get by in Moscow. It surpassed New York by being the city with the most number of billionaires, and commoners are usually affected. The price for the food is really skyrocketing.

7. Their hotels are the least ideal you’ll ever find. We stayed in a 4 star (some guide books call it 5), and the space is so small, that my hk single bed is even much more spacious. They aren’t aware of kettles, and they don’t have robes, slippers or any hotel luxury for that matter.

8. Their trains are the noisiest ever. I remember the trains operated by Dagny’s family in Atlas Shrugged, and they really gave me the creeps whenever we rode the metros. I was a bit nervous that we it will just stop and leave us underground to rot. Hehe, I should be paranoid with this paranoia.

9. Traffic was so bad that I sometimes confused myself if I was in Manila or in Moscow.

10. Most of them cannot speak English. But they're beautiful nevertheless.

11. The Red Square is the answer to my childhood fairy tale dream! When I was little, I pictured myself in a princess costume with this structure as my palace. Very colorful, eh? It’s just perfect. Perfect. Then I found out it’s a basilica. Hehe. But I’m still dreaming to live in a place like this some day. It really gives you a very good blissful personal feeling.

12. Russians are generally good people. I hope their government could be more democratic very soon so their people can see more of the world.

how about partying before a business trip?

after i returned from mexico, my boss assigned me to do 40++ proposals for a mexican subdirector.

she only gave me a week to prepare while she gambles in her las vegas getaway. see the social inequality here?

anyway, for that week i have been working for 14 hours daily. no joke. it's really that hard.

and when the big day came, i was tasked to be an interpreter and i was jittering all througout the 6 hour meeting! must be from all fatigue, stress, anxiety, and lack of breakfast.

and i haven't packed yet for my moscow trip! i was supposed to fly the following day, and i haven't cleared out my tasks, even more prepare the things that i need.

i met up with my good friend maia (kristine hermosa is her niece, wala lang) and we had our dinner at taco loco. we burned a few sticks til midnight, and i asked her if we can go to a bar for an hour just so i can release some stress. i wanted to dance.

she willfully agreed and before we know it, we were at the bar til 5am dancing our stress away! while i was getting carried away by the upbeat songs, i quietly recounted how many hours i've got til i fly. i was like: ok you have 20hours left - 4 hours to sleep, 2 hours to pack, 5 hours to go back to the office, etc etc.. im such a freak.

hay.. work hard, play hard.

i'm going to moscow!

yipee! the business trip that excites me the most.

russia! woohoo!

more stories when i get back.

here's my visa:

hiking - tai po market

i've experienced the shortest fling of my life. ever.

after all the stress from the mexico trip, my hikemates invited me to go to tai po market.

it was exhausting! we climbed like a total 20 hills! sheesh!

anyway, we met three chinese guys on the third hill (there were three of us girls).

and it happened - the usual set-up as in tv: we got a partner each. hehe! and i got the cutest, youngest and the most gorgeous one! waha!

though he can't speak much english, he made it up with actions. i can't remember his name - could be ao yeung, or something like that. we we're holding hands and getting touchy. wehe.

he's the one at the left.

then that's it - my shortest fling ever. 5 hrs to be exact.

wiki!!!

chronicles of my mexico trip - part 14: epilogue

i had two eleven hour flights on my way back, though i didn't have to wait for 18 hours at the frankfurt airport. i only waited two hours. and once again, coach seats. haayy...

i just took a shower at my flat and went straight to the office to get back to work.

still floating, i immediately reported to my direct manager (the daughter of the big boss) and updated her on what happened on our trip. of course i didn't mention about the sightseeing part.

she said she's going on a one week holiday the following week, and it's a good thing i had gone back to the office to take care of my accounts. they want me to sacrifice my meager vacation leaves, but they set off for vacay at a nanosecond notice.

good thing the mexico trip wasn't as hard as expected. if not, i'd be killing myself by now.

my realization after this trip: i've got so many potential. i may not be as intelligent or classy as what this job requires, but im starting to feel indispensable to the company.

im so dying to leave them next year. this is just the sweetest revenge. hehe.

for the meantime, ill go back to slaving myself. i've got a lot of things to do.
